Through thoughtful collaboration and responsible stewardship, the foundation supports initiatives that contribute to long-term economic vitality, community stability, and the responsible development of shared civic assets.

General Support

General support contributions provide the foundation with the flexibility needed to advance its mission across the communities it serves. These contributions support planning, coordination, research, and collaboration efforts that allow the foundation to identify opportunities and work with partners to advance meaningful community initiatives.

General support also enables the foundation to respond to emerging opportunities and continue building the partnerships and resources necessary to strengthen communities over time.

Community Initiatives

Contributions may also support community initiatives aligned with the foundation’s mission. These initiatives may involve projects related to community infrastructure, workforce and community housing, workspace and innovation centers, recreation facilities, hospitality infrastructure, and other community-serving assets that contribute to local economic vitality.

As the foundation works with communities across the country, contributions may also support place-based initiatives developed in collaboration with local partners and community stakeholders.

Designated Contributions

Donors may express interest in supporting particular initiatives or communities. Heartland Development Foundation seeks to honor donor designations whenever possible. However, in order to ensure that contributions continue to serve the foundation’s charitable mission, the foundation retains discretion to apply contributions toward similar charitable purposes if a designated initiative becomes impractical or unnecessary.
